coloring Easter eggs

This evening we did a quick Easter egg coloring session. It was pretty slick- I just hard boiled a dozen and of course 4-6 of them were cracked- if anyone has tips on how not to crack the egg, I'd love it. Then we set up the colors and the kids colored them and drew on them and played for a while. So much easier nowadays. They both had so much fun creating and playing.

I love these kids more than I could ever have imagined. Lucky me

Girls weekend in Des Moines

Every spring my high school friends make an honest effort get a girls weekend in. This year we all went to Des Moines. Sonia moved there and we were all excited to see her new digs. Suz and I came from Sioux Falls. Jamie came from Omaha. Noelle came from Kansas City and Sarah came from Huntington Beach.

From the moment we arrived until Sunday we were in constant communication- staying up late chatting and bonding. We got pedis and manis and ate way too much great food. We also went to the bar where they filmed The Bachelorette and had the mural of Chris and Whitney. I was really excited to check it out.

It was a great, low key weekend. I can't wait to see them all again. I am lucky to have such great forever friends.

Rudy Rooster Oliver

Back in January I started doing some heavy puppy research. I spent many evenings researching breeds and looking for litters in our area of the country. I wanted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel- Jeff wasn't totally sold. Back to the drawing board- mini labradoodle. Jeff said, too expensive. So the searching was back on. Then, I stumbled across the cavapoo. A mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. I was sold instantly with the adorableness and the fact that they don't shed.

My next mission was to find a cavapoo near us. There are tons of breeders- just not many in this part of the country. I could have had one shipped here but I didn't want to put a pup on a plane- the thought of it broke my heart.

I found one in Eastern Iowa and thought I found the one. Then things weren't adding up with this breeder- she wouldn't send me a picture, wanted to meet at an exit, etc. The though of driving 7 hours and the risk of having someone not show up was just not an option for us. We had to be 100% certain this was legit.

Then, I just started googling breeders in the South Dakota/Minnesota/Iowa/Nebraska and up popped this breeder with a website and reviews, but no cavapoo puppies at the time. I took a shot and emailed them just to ask if they would have puppies soon. Within a couple of days I got an email back saying they had just had 3 females and they were all available! Woohoo! Jeff and I talked about it and were both totally ready to add this little ball of fur to our family. We picked her out and then it was just the waiting game.

I got weekly emails from Sandy (the breeder) and I fell in love more and more each week. She was born on 1/19/2015

To make things even more fun we decided to keep the who puppy plan a secret from the kids. And, it was totally worth it. Jeff and I made the long trip to Baileyville, Kansas (4.5 hours each way) to pick her up while the kids were home with Riley on Sunday. The closer we got to home the more excited and anxious I was getting. I brought a box and we put her in it and we came inside and told the kids we had a surprise and they opened the box to find, a puppy! They were surprised and so sweet. They were both in complete love.

Here are some of our weekly pictures that we received every week along with some early pictures with kids on the first couple of days. She is about 3lbs and 5 inches tall.

Utah 2015

We spent 8 days in Utah with Jeff's family last week. The 4 of us went a couple days early so I didn't have to celebrate my birthday traveling. It worked out great. Jeff, the kids and I had our day to explore Salt Lake City and then we headed up to Park City to get settled for our week of fun.

Anna got really sick the afternoon of my birthday and for some reason the only time I didn't pack any children's medicine is the time I needed it. I felt stranded with no car and the nearest store was several miles away. I woke up very early on Sunday morning next to a very sick little girl and chose to get up and get a cab to the store to pick up some children's medicine before Jeff and Isaac headed out to ski and ski school for the day. She didn't perk up and by that evening Jeff decided to take her to acute care and sure enough she had strep throat. She was back to herself by late the next day and we were set for fun!

Isaac did 2 days of ski school and 2 days of skiing- one with me and one with all the guys. Anna also ended up doing 2 days of ski school. She had so much fun on the first day she asked to go again. Sure thing sweet girl.

We spent a day at the tubing hill and also did an alpine roller coaster. It was fun.

I was able to do a painting canvas class with Patricia and Linda which was a great night out.

The kids had fun seeing all their cousins and Kristy, Joe, Jack, Patricia, John and Linda. It had been a long time since we saw them last. Isaac and Jaxson sure have a great time together. They are basically connected at the hip for the week.

Enjoy all the pics!

The Big 35!

What a great Birthday! Exploring Salt Lake City with Jeff and the kids. We had a great family day. It isn't very often that we get a family day with no distraction of work, school, life, etc.

We checked out Temple Square, went to the Children's museum, ate lunch at Gameworks and played some arcade games. Then we came to Park City and the kids went swimming. We all had fun! I wish every Birthday could be as great as this one.

Cheers to 35!

Local media crazy

Last week the kids and I stopped by to pick up some signs for family and friends to support the change in our school calender to start after Labor Day instead of mid August. Never did I expect this little stop to put us in the paper and on the news!

A reporter and photographer from the Argus followed us out to our car and snapped a bunch of pics and asked some questions. I went home nervous and anxious to see what they would use.

On Friday morning Isaac ran out to get the paper and came in and found us on the front page of the Voices section. The kids think we are famous!

Then I was approached on Friday morning by a news station wanting to do a story about the calender and wanting to use us again!

They did an interview and some video of the kids playing while Jeff peeked out and watched from the garage window.

Again, I was very nervous to see the final product. Since I was out of town some friends sent me the link. It turned out just fine.

It was a crazy 15 hours.

The kids still think they are famous. :)

Big Sky Weekend

Jeff and his buddy, Wosje went to Big Sky last weekend to ski. They left Thursday morning and returned late on Sunday evening. They made the long 12 hour drive and skied for 2 full days and a half day. He said they had a great time.

We missed him while he was gone but we were happy to hear how much fun he had.

church reading

Last week we got a note home from school saying Isaac was chosen to help with the church petitions the following week when the kindergarteners were in charge of mass. His teacher sent his reading home and asked that he practice it throughout the week so he would be ready. He brought it home and had it memorized within a couple of days.

On the day of church my mom and I went to watch. He was very excited about this job. He did so great. My mom and I were waiting for him to come through the hallway after mass to say hi and give him a high five he was beaming- ear to ear. So proud. What a sweet moment in my day.

I don't dare tell him I was deathly afraid to speak in front of a crowd. For now we are going to embrace the excitement of it through the eyes of a 6 year old!
