California 2014

We just returned from one of the best vacations ever!

We had plans to go to Coronado for awhile and every time we go I contact my girlfriend who lives in Huntington Beach. This time I told her my dates and she said another good friend was going to be there at the same time. We all coordinated our dates and ended up spending the first half of our trip in Newport Beach with the 2 other families. We rented a home right on the beach. The second half of our vacation was spent in Coronado.

Newport was so relaxing and fun and such a great chance to connect with longtime friends. Our kids are all close enough in age they were able to keep each other very busy most of the time. Another friend who lives in LA came for a day and I haven't seen her in years so it was great to see her, too.

Coronado was amazing, as usual. This time we vowed to not leave the island (except for family pictures we booked months ago). We followed our plans and spent the whole time on the beach and in the pool- and one morning renting bikes to cruise around the island.

The kids had a great time. We had a great time as a family. The kids slept pretty well and we never woke up super early like years in the passed. When Isaac would sneak into our room in the morning I was ready to get up.

I cannot wait to go back.

faces of soccer

Isaac is busy in his soccer season playing 2 games on Sundays and a practice during the week. He really does love soccer. Today I brought my camera and some of the shots I got were some pretty silly faces. He played really well. It is fun to see him gain confidence with age and not be afraid to get a little aggressive and go after the ball.

baptism or ice bucket challenge?

I have recently asked Isaac's teacher if I could help her with any projects or extra work. Wednesday was the day I got my first assignment; I had to organize some papers for future lesson plans. Anna was helping me finish up today and she picked out the paper below and said, "look mom, they are doing the ice bucket challenge." Hilarious. I can't make this up. But it is exactly what it looks like.

Guitar Concert

Isaac had his guitar concert this evening. He did really good! It was so fun to watch him play the songs he has been working really hard on. He was very proud and told me when he was finished that he had fun. Good!

When we were done my parents came with us to dinner- Isaac's request, Pizza Ranch.

Sunday Morning

This morning Suzie mentioned they were going to go to Arrowhead Park to feed the ducks and geese. The kids and I met them there. We arrived about a half hour early and I had some left over corn in my car from last year so the kids used it up. The ducks and geese get very close to you! We had a great time.

This one of my top 5 things to do with kids in SF in the summer. And, it's basically free,

Dakota Bowl

Another successful Dakota Bowl is behind us. Isaac and Jeff went to the football camp in the morning and we all went tailgating from about 5:30 on. Isaac loved every second. He loved playing with his friends at the tailgate party and loved cheering on the Knights! Anna loved eating all the junk food at the tailgate and then left shortly after the game started with my mom. We stayed for the fireworks at halftime and then I took the kids home. Jeff stayed for the whole thing- he was the chairman this year! We always have so much fun with all of our old friends. It was the perfect day.

little soccer star

Anna had her first soccer experience yesterday. She was so fun to watch. She followed direction in the practice portion, being very careful to do everything correctly. Then when it was game time she just stood there and watched everything go by right in front of her. She didn't get near the ball. After some encouragement from the coach she tip toed into the action. A few minutes later she got caught in the action and ended up falling- big big tears. The coach carried her to the sideline where Jeff went to see how she was doing. She wanted to come sit with me. After a few minutes I encouraged her to back on the field. She did, but I had to be right by her side. I left after a couple more minutes. She braved it and got back out there for the rest of the game.

She is the only 3 year old on the team, everyone else is 4 and 5.

So adorable. So sweet. So timid. So gentle. So brave.

I can't wait to see her soccer future develop.

8 is great

Whether we go on a weekend away or spend the day packing up and getting take out with the kids, it's still a great day, especially when you are celebrating being married for 8 years! We didn't have anything planned except for coming home from the lake and Isaac had guitar. Which I tried to change last minute and get a sitter but we cancelled due to the head cold and cough that has taken over our family. So we just had some wings and then splurged with some blizzards from DQ. The kids loved the opportunity to celebrate and get some goodies. Jeff snuck in a quick stop at the florist to bring me some roses. He always finds a way to spoil me. Life is good. We are happy and healthy, we have 2 beautiful kids. We can't ask for more. Looking forward to many more.
